The island of Fuerteventura is one of the most popular holiday destinations in the Canary Islands. Located off the northwest coast of Africa but belonging to Spain, the island is famous for its long sandy beaches, year-round sunshine and relaxed atmosphere. Fuerteventura is often called the “island of eternal spring” because its temperatures remain pleasant throughout the year. The weather in Fuerteventura is one of its biggest attractions. January is one of the coolest months, but temperatures are still mild compared with much of Europe. February has similar conditions with plenty of sunshine and average temperatures around 21°C. March begins to feel slightly warmer, with temperatures often reaching 22°C to 23°C and longer sunny days.

April continues the pleasant spring weather with temperatures around 22°C to 24°C. This is a lovely time to visit the island before the peak summer season begins. In May the weather becomes warmer and sunnier, with temperatures usually around 24°C to 25°C. June marks the start of the summer season, with temperatures commonly reaching 26°C to 27°C and very little rainfall.

July and August are the warmest and sunniest months. Temperatures typically reach around 28°C to 30°C, although cooling Atlantic breezes help keep the heat comfortable. September remains warm and sunny with temperatures around 28°C. The sea is also at its warmest during this period, making it perfect for swimming and water sports. October stays pleasantly warm with temperatures around 26°C to 27°C, making it a great time for both beach holidays and exploring the island. November sees temperatures slowly drop to around 23°C to 24°C, but there is still plenty of sunshine. December remains mild and comfortable with temperatures around 21°C to 23°C, making Fuerteventura a popular winter sun destination.

Fuerteventura is famous for having some of the best beaches in the Canary Islands. Many of the beaches stretch for miles with soft golden sand and clear blue water. The resort town of Corralejo in the north of the island is known for its beautiful coastline and lively atmosphere. Nearby you will find the impressive sand dunes of Parque Natural de Corralejo, where large dunes meet the turquoise Atlantic Ocean. In the south of the island, the resort area of Costa Calma offers long, peaceful beaches perfect for relaxing. One of the most famous beaches in the area is Sotavento Beach, known for its wide sandy shoreline and excellent windsurfing and kitesurfing conditions.

Beyond the beaches, Fuerteventura offers many interesting places to explore. Visitors can discover traditional villages and historic towns such as Betancuria, which was once the island’s capital. Surrounded by mountains, Betancuria offers beautiful scenery, historic buildings and a glimpse into the island’s past. Travellers can also explore volcanic landscapes, rugged cliffs and quiet countryside areas that show a different side of the island away from the busy resorts.

Outdoor activities are very popular in Fuerteventura thanks to the warm climate and natural scenery. Many visitors enjoy water sports such as surfing, windsurfing and diving. Boat trips, fishing excursions and coastal walks are also popular ways to experience the island’s coastline. The steady Atlantic winds also make the island one of Europe’s top destinations for kitesurfing.

One of the most well-known local foods is papas arrugadas, small salted potatoes served with spicy mojo sauces.
